This sweater is definitely not for me, but I applaud the knitter’s creativity and dedication!

Still here! I haven’t posted anything in such a long time because I’ve done almost no knitting since I finished the bag below. I’ve been busy with school, work, house, blah blah blah. I will do my best to start posting in a more regular fashion, though.

Check out the R2D2 knit hat on a very cool blog I just discovered! This appeals to the nerdy knitter in me (found via Giz). I will put it in my queue but I’m so behind right now I’ll probably get to it in 2012. I’m not crazy about the projecting bits, but otherwise I love it!
The queue:
Put in lining of Christmas Rose bag
Scarlet and gray scarves for my mom and dad (GO BUCKS!)
Kenobi jacket for Jeff
Fingerless gloves
R2D2 hat maybe?

Happy February*, everyone. I’m in the final stages of this bag, and I should be able to finish it this weekend (fingers crossed). There are a few rows of the pattern left plus the bottom, which is done with decreases. I’m interested to see how it turns out, specifically the shaping. I wonder if the bottom will hold its shape or will it droop? I’m also concerned about the length. I seem to find a lot of purses that are wide but not very deep. I hate that! I have a lot of stuff to tote around with me and I need a deep bag to stash it all.

I always have trouble finding just the right magazine. The same usually goes for books, too, which is why many times I go for magazines – they tend to have the latest trends and are less of a hit on the wallet. Sometimes I wonder who the ad wizards are that come with the covers, though. I’ve seen way too many over sized stitches and frumpy-looking clothing staring back at me from the rack. I suppose the frumpy-looking magazines are not targeting my age group (I’m 26) anyway.
I’ve picked up a few odds and ends, knitsimple, etc. I need some additional suggestions though, because I’m always looking for new patterns. It’s my own knitter’s dilemma, I suppose, because I’m constantly thinking 2 projects ahead of where I am. The finishing can sometimes be less than great due to this (I hate sewing seams!). Knitting has been good for improving my patience.

I received a $25 gift card to Barnes and Noble a few weeks ago and promptly rushed to the craft section to scope out some new patterns. About an hour and 4 shelves of books later I settled on Handknit Holidays. I’m not crazy over the hat and gloves combo on the cover but it’s got some great patterns inside. The first project I’m working on is a Christmas Rose gift bag.
This is my first try with fair isle knitting. And let me tell you… NEVER AGAIN*. It’s taken 3-4 hours just to do the knitting/purling band at the top of the bag, and I’m doing the smaller size. The fact that I’ve never done continental knitting slowed me down in the beginning, because I had to teach myself how to work with 2 colors at once. KnittingHelp.com has been a tremendous resource. It’s always the first place I go when I need help with a technique.
*=May be an exaggeration. I’ve gotten the hang of Fair Isle knitting now, but there was quite a learning curve.
